“So maybe you shouldn’t be alone with this guy. Wait, is this the guy who did the magical symbols in your apartment?” Zoe’s apartment, which I’d visited in the spring, was completely covered with mystical symbols as protection from ghosts. Clearly very necessary, given what I’d just witnessed. Otherwise, they’d bother her at all hours.

“That’s him,” Zoe said.

“So he knows where you live. Maybe don’t contact him yet,” I said. “I still have one more place I can go for research.”

“Where?” she asked.

“Thirteen Books,” I said.

“Oh no,” she said. “Do you want me to come with you?”
